Child
Education
We believe we can branch the children in any career
they wish if they have the proper education.
Main aim of teachers is to guide the child in:
- A developing physical and mental growth.
- Encourage personal independence.
- Develop academic and social skills.
- Teach universal set of values and ethics.
- Teach and increase moral sensitivity and emphazise on concept of honesty equality understanding and respect for humanity.
- Help developing the personality of the child
by encouraging qualities that they will need for
success in their future lives as:
- self confidence
- self esteem
- intellectual curiosity
- Leadership, creative thinking, and ability to analize and make wise decisions.
The basics
Children for education are
selected from the low productivity –
low income families living in the slum areas around Dhaka.
The school programme caters for children aged 4 or 5 and
above,
providing education and their basics needs such as:
- food
- school uniforms
- books
- stationary materials
- toiletries
- rain coats
- shoes and socks
The hours of the school are currently
9 am – 1 pm and
will be increased
to 3 pm later in the year. The national
curriculum for Grades 1 to 5 is followed.
The pre-school programme caters for the
younger children from nursery through to kindergarten, again
covering all their basic needs such as:
- washing/grooming
- clothing
- food
- toiletries (including nappies)
- cribs
- toys
Hours of the pre-school are 9 am – 5 pm and a structure which includes storytime/reading with pictures, structured and free play, introduction of numbers/letters, songs/rhymes and drawing/colouring is followed.
The staff
At the start of this year, the school saw the introduction of experienced
and graduate standard full time teaching staff. With the guidance of a headmasterstyle role and the new teaching staff, the school has been enriched in many ways. With the help of the staff more furniture has been introduced, a small library setup and the children now comply with time and attendance disciplines.
The pre-school is managed by a dedicated, full time member of staff who oversees all activities and is the key teacher. He is supported by a nursery mistress and child minders to ensure that all the children are looked after from the moment they arrive.
The facilities
Both the school and pre-school are housed in centrally located, rented accommodation within a 5 minute walk from each other.
The school was hoping to have two floors of the current
building but expansion has stalled with the landlord and
financing. At present the
children and staff work closely
together to achieve great results in a small
yet suitably
equipped space. Hygiene facilities and disciplines have been
introduced and a formal school schedule pioneered, though
regrettably
at present there is no clean and safe place for
break times to be spent outside of the school rooms.
The pre-school has been setup in a single story with a large
concreted
play area safely walled and gated from the outside
world. The place is equipped with toys for free play (from
badminton, bouncy balls, tricycles through to tents to make
play homes), early learning support tools and
cribs for the
youngest members to catch-up on some sleep.
